Hello! Thanks for joining me. My website is home to all things pretty and sparkly to make you feel like a princess on your wedding day or to feel fabulous for brunch with your best girlies.
My business started by accident in 2012 when I was living in London. I was fresh out of university having completed a Drama and Theatre Arts course and was now working as an usher in a West End theatre to pay my rent whilst going to auditions and workshops. It was an amazing time of my life due to the friends I worked with and parties with the cast of the shows.
Whilst I was working at the theatre I started making winter woollen headband with paper flower and lace embellishments for my friends. When their popularity grew I made social media pages for it and asked Stephen Fry (who was in a show at the time) to tweet about them to his then 5 million followers. I got a fair few followers from that and decided to set up a website. We were now heading into the spring so I had to think how I could adapt the winter headbands into something a bit lighter...and so the flower crowns were born.
I undertook a course at The British Millinery School and learn the techniques of wire work so I could create hair vines and tiaras. After leaving theatre land and returning from China and Thailand, George and I decided to move back to my home town of Torquay so I could get a part time job and spend more time working on my business.
Fast forward to 2020 with one rebrand, photoshoots, magazine features and three awards later - here I am with my very own studio in the heart of Cockington Court, Torquay. Having built up quite a workload, I decided in February 2020 to hand in my notice at my part time job to go full time with my business. My last day was two days before the national lockdown...
I have used 2020 to grow my business as much as possible. I have created a new ceramic flower collection on my website, been featured in some wonderful wedding magazines and photoshoots and launched my very first jewellery collection. I also have had an amazing intern with me called Sophie, who has spent half the year with me and has been a brilliant help.
This year has been a devastating time for wedding couples, some of my brides have had had to postpone their wedding two or even three times. I have been extremely lucky that I have been able to work behind closed doors the whole year and my heart goes out to all the wedding suppliers and venues who have see their whole yearly income gone in one swoop.
We have all had to adapt our businesses, for me, I have really missed having brides in the studio for design consultations but luckily we have been able to chat over video call.
Despite the pandemic, this year has been a very positive one for me. It has given me time to play, to create new designs and take up lots of business courses. I also redecorated the studio this summer and I am so excited to welcome my brides back here when I can. I am very much looking forward to the future and hope we can get back to a new normal as soon as possible.
